Proud New Papa Palou Gears Up for 2024 Title Defense

11 months ago By Sports Desk

Spaniard Alex Palou, the reigning IndyCar champion, is all set to defend his IndyCar title with the responsibilities of a father now.
The two-time IndyCar winner has had many memorable moments in his life, but nothing beats what happened on December 4. The Spaniard, along with his girlfriend Esther, welcomed their first child, a girl named Lucia, earlier this month.
The Spaniard announced the news with an Instagram post that said, “Welcome to our world, Lucia❤️. Both baby and mom are doing great. Best day ever. #Dad”.

After the hospital, the intensity continued. Palou drove home with a newborn in the backseat, an experience common to most families when they take their firstborn out of the hospital.

Despite the short 20-minute drive, Palou called the trip from the hospital to their home one of his most trying. It’s true that the driver who clocked the fastest pole in the 107-year history of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last May—a four-lap average of 234.217 mph—was anxious and uncomfortable when he drove at regular speeds.

In a recent interview, Palou shared, “I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything like that. It was mind-blowing. It was amazing. Very emotional. And it was a different kind of win, let’s say. I don’t know how to describe it. It’s very intense, for sure. But it was all worth it.”
Palou’s adept driving allowed him to easily bring his wife and newborn home. Presently, the expanding family enjoys the atmosphere of this unique occasion. But there are still goals to aim for, such as winning a third NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship in four seasons in 2024 while sporting the new principal sponsor’s yellow and red colors.
Clearly, with the birth of his daughter, Palou is having the time of his life right now. The birth of his child added an extra level of motivation as he gears up for the 2024 title defense, as he is eying to become the first repeat title winner since Dario Franchitti won three straight from 2009–11.

Compared to 2021, he took far greater pleasure in capturing a second championship with Chip Ganassi Racing in 2023. In any sport, most people aspire to win a second title, which sets certain athletes and/or teams apart from others. It is one thing to get a first, but it is far more difficult to get a second.
With each passing day, we are getting closer to the 2024 season. One thing is certain: with new responsibilities in mind, proud New Papa Palou is ready to give his 100 percent to writing his name in motorsport history books.
