MotoGP 2024 Calendar Altered: Argentina Grand Prix Scrapped

9 months ago By Sports Desk

To all the MotoGP Fans!!!!

Big changes are coming to the 2024 MotoGP calendar with the Argentinian Grand Prix officially cancelled. The Argentine government’s decision will reduce costs, which will impact the ability of race organizers to guarantee the services required to meet MotoGP standards.

The Argentina round originally scheduled for April 5-7 will not be replaced in the 2024 calendar. The MotoGP organization hopes to return to the Termas de Rio Hondo race in 2025. The change means a change of plans, with Portimão and Circuit of the Americas races two weeks apart.

Termas de Rio Hondo has been on the MotoGP calendar since 2014 and has faced challenges in recent years, including a pit fire in 2021 and delivery delays in 2022. The reason for the decision to cancel the 2024 race is that the organizers are unable to provide the standards required by MotoGP under the current circumstances.

The newly revised schedule now includes 21 rounds, including the highly anticipated Kazakh Grand Prix, which will be held at the new Sokol circuit in June. Although there was no immediate announcement of a replacement for Argentina, MotoGP has kept a backup track in Hungary – the Balaton Park circuit, due to open in 2023 – in case same-sex requirements have to be met.

The 2024 season was originally promised to be the longest in MotoGP history with 22 stages, but that will change due to the uncertainty surrounding the Argentinian Grand Prix. This change reflects the dynamic complexity of global issues and budgetary decisions that directly impact international sporting events.

While fans are processing the news of the cancellation, MotoGP remains flexible about its Hungarian back-up field, with contingency plans ready in case of further changes to the schedule. Now looking to the future, there is hope for an exciting return to the Argentinian circuit in 2025, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a new era in the dynamic world-class motorcycle racing community.
